During the summer, students take courses in language arts, mathematics, and science. Each subject area is taught in a two-week block with one "core" class and two seminars. These classes will prepare program participants for courses they will take back at their high schools in the fall. For example, if a student will be taking Algebra II in the fall, she'll be placed in an Algebra II class during the summer.
Academic excellence awards are given in all subject areas during the summer.
In addition to the three core areas, every participant will also take a six-week foreign language course (the languages offered are French, Japanese, and Spanish) that emphasizes the culture in a country where that language is spoken, some basic grammar, and beginning vocabulary.
Since the foreign language classes meet two days each week, on the other two afternoons, students take a six-week Technology Seminar.
