West Liberty High School—located midway between Iowa City and Muscatine and having a population of 3,100—is the home of the Comets. WLHS offers a wide range of educational opportunities for all students. For example, students are allowed to take up to five years of math, the language arts department offers classes ranging from Business English to Advances Placement English, and Junior Achievement is a focus of the social studies program. Additionally, the science department offers courses ranging from Physical Science to Physics and Chemistry. Vocational offerings are available in a variety of settings encompassing industrial and vocational technology, agriculture, home economics, and business education including articulation agreements with community colleges in five vocational areas.


Student to Teacher Ratio
In addition to a wide range of course offerings, West Liberty High School provides a student to teacher ratio of fourteen to one.


Technology
WLHS has at its disposal technology that rivals or surpasses that of the largest area schools with a student to computer ratio of eight to one. The Industrial Technology program offers sophisticated computer-aided drafting (CAD) and electronics programs while journalism and yearbook classes utilize the most sophisticated desktop publishing software packages and video production hardware and software.

Over 60% of West Liberty students enroll in postsecondary education.
