Muscatine High School is the home of the Muskies. MHS, which supports students in grades 9 through 12. An auditorium and foyer with new administrative offices was recently completed, as seen in the accompanying photograph.

Located along the Mississippi River in east-central Iowa, Muscatine received its name in 1850 and was the home of Mark Twain for a short time in 1854. The river not only allowed explorers to reach to future site of Muscatine but also provided a key resource for the growth of industry and commercialization in the region. Grist mills, which ground grain to flour, were powered by stream water flowing to the Mississippi and marked the beginning of business development in the 1830s.
